SUMMARY:BRUACH: Supporting Mad Ferret – Errol Village Hall\, December 13th\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:On December 13th\, 2024\, BRUACH had the honour of supporting the incredible folk duo Mad Ferret at Errol Village Hall. Sharing the stage with these seasoned musicians — well known in the Scottish folk scene and with roots in the Errol area — was a meaningful moment for our band. \n \nNot only did the night deliver powerful performances and a warm community vibe\, but it also deepened our connection with artists we’ve admired for years. Some of the Mad Ferret members have known of BRUACH since before our current line-up\, making this gig feel like a joyful homecoming. \nA heartfelt thank you to Mad Ferret and everyone in Errol for such a memorable night of music and friendship.

SUMMARY:BRUACH: McKays Hotel\, Pitlochry – November 16th\, 2024 (First McKays Appearance)
DESCRIPTION:On November 16th\, 2024\, BRUACH performed for the first time at McKays Hotel in Pitlochry — and the night turned out to be a massive success. \nWhile not a debut for our current members individually\, this was our first appearance as BRUACH at McKays\, and the reception exceeded all expectations. The crowd was incredible\, with new faces pouring in mid-set from a nearby Peat and Diesel gig\, and some even saying “this is better!” \nThe response from McKays was so enthusiastic that we were invited back three times before the year ended — all of which we had to politely decline due to prior commitments. It was clear from that night on: BRUACH had found a home in Pitlochry.

SUMMARY:BRUACH: Return to The Twa Tams – November 8\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:On November 8th\, 2024\, BRUACH returned to The Twa Tams\, a venue that has supported us from the early days and holds a special place in our band’s journey. \n \nFor me personally\, this night came at a moment of emotional turbulence — just after a difficult show in Skye that left me questioning my place in the band. But Twa Tams offered a familiar space\, both comforting and raw\, where we could face each other honestly. \nThe gig itself reflected that tension: the music was solid\, the energy was real\, and there was an unspoken desire — from both the band and the audience — to find connection again. In a quiet but powerful way\, this show helped us begin to rebuild mutual trust. \nI had actually debuted at Twa Tams one year earlier\, which made this night all the more meaningful. Sometimes\, the places that see you begin also help you heal. For BRUACH\, and for me\, Twa Tams is one of those places. \nFrom Kayo’s note

SUMMARY:BRUACH: 1820\, Isle of Skye – October 19th\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:BRUACH performed at the 1820 Bar on the Isle of Skye on October 19th\, 2024 — a night that brought challenges\, reflection\, and ultimately\, connection. \n \nDespite technical issues that muted key parts of the performance\, including a carefully prepared violin solo\, the collective energy of the full band carried the show forward. The audience responded with warmth\, and merch sales reached a record high — a reminder that even imperfect moments can resonate. \nSurrounding the gig\, there were beautiful highlights: hiking the Old Man of Storr with bandmates and their partners\, reconnecting with the generous hosts of a beloved B&B\, and performing a spontaneous solo concert for guests the following morning — moments that felt more intimate and honest than the stage itself. \nPerhaps most powerfully\, the journey led to the Fairy Pools\, where in the wild wind of Storm Ashley\, Kayo played her violin alone — not for a crowd\, but for the sky\, the hills\, and whoever happened to listen. \nOne photographer did.And in that captured moment\, Kayo was reminded that music doesn’t need permission to be meaningful.

SUMMARY:BRUACH: Dumfries Music Festival (Cancelled)
DESCRIPTION:BRUACH was scheduled to perform at the Dumfries Music Festival on September 14th\, 2024\, at the Horse and Coaches venue — an event we were truly looking forward to. \n \nUnfortunately\, due to illness within the band (Pheely was struck by the flu)\, we had to make the difficult decision to cancel our appearance. It was disappointing\, but we were grateful for the understanding of the organizers and fellow musicians. \nWhile we weren’t able to take the stage that day\, the festival remains in our hearts\, and we hope to be part of it in the future. Sometimes\, simply being meant to play is part of the journey too.

SUMMARY:BRUACH: Live at St Andrews Brewing Co.\, Dundee
DESCRIPTION:On September 8th\, 2024\, BRUACH brought our folk-rock energy back to one of our favourite Dundee venues — St Andrews Brewing Co. \n \nAs always\, the atmosphere was buzzing and the crowd was right there with us from the first note. There’s something about this venue that brings out the best in both the band and the audience — an electric connection that turns a great night into an unforgettable one. \nWith fiddles soaring\, rhythms driving\, and voices joining in\, this was yet another day where BRUACH and Dundee sang as one.

SUMMARY:BRUACH: Hootananny\, Inverness – August 17th\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:Performing at Hootananny in Inverness on August 17th\, 2024\, was a true honour for BRUACH. Known as a sacred venue for Scottish folk music\, Hootananny draws some of the finest traditional and contemporary acts from across the country. \n \nWe were deeply inspired by the high level of musicianship that came before us — sharing the bill with incredible artists reminded us of the legacy we’re now a part of. \nAs we took the stage\, the room quickly packed to bursting\, and soon the space in front of the stage became standing-room only. We were proud to share our sound with an international crowd — visitors from North and South America\, Africa\, Europe\, and Japan — and to feel our music resonate across cultures and languages. \nThis performance wasn’t just another gig — it was a milestone\, and one we’ll always carry with pride.

SUMMARY:BRUACH: Loch Fyne Hoolie\, Inveraray – July 28th\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:On July 28th\, 2024\, BRUACH performed under the open sky at the Loch Fyne Hoolie Festival in Inveraray — and what a day it was! With clear blue skies and a vibrant atmosphere\, our set on the outdoor stage at The George Hotel became one of those magical summer performances we’ll never forget. \n \nIt was Kayo’s first time playing at The George Hotel\, and BRUACH’s second appearance there — but it felt like a perfect homecoming. Families\, children\, and older generations all came together in front of the stage\, dancing\, smiling\, and soaking in the music. \nSurrounded by the beauty of Loch Fyne and the warmth of a community united by music\, it was a day where everything clicked — nature\, tradition\, and sound in harmony.

SUMMARY:BRUACH: Clark’s\, Dundee – July 24th\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:On July 24th\, 2024\, BRUACH joined a powerful lineup at Clark’s in Dundee\, supporting nationally touring artist Josh Moncrieff. The event also featured performances by Lucas Paxton\, Josh Boyd\, and Alabama Crow — a night filled with passion\, talent\, and musical connection. \n \nFrom the first chord\, the crowd was fully engaged\, and the energy only grew. One especially memorable moment came when the organiser of a nearby birthday celebration group approached us with kind words about our performance — a spontaneous exchange that reminded us why live music is so meaningful. \nSharing the stage with such a strong group of artists\, and receiving such heartfelt audience feedback\, made this a truly memorable night in Dundee.

SUMMARY:BRUACH: Live at The Twa Tams\, Perth
DESCRIPTION:BRUACH returned to one of our favourite venues\, The Twa Tams in Perth\, on July 19th\, 2024 — and the night was full of joy\, rhythm\, and familiar faces. \n \nThe support from the local crowd was heartwarming\, with friends and regulars coming out to cheer us on and filling the floor with dancing. There’s a special connection we feel with this venue — maybe it’s the vibe\, maybe it’s the people\, or maybe it’s the great coffee\, hot chocolate\, and dangerously tasty shot glasses on the menu. \nWhatever it is\, The Twa Tams always feels like home\, and this night reminded us why we love playing there. SUMMARY:BRUACH: Drummonds\, Aberdeen – Pre-Match Show
DESCRIPTION:On June 23rd\, 2024\, BRUACH performed a pre-match set at Drummonds\, a spacious and vibrant music venue in Aberdeen\, ahead of the UEFA Euro 2024 match between Scotland and Hungary. \n \nThe energy was electric — the crowd buzzing with anticipation\, flags waving\, and pint glasses raised high. Our set added to the festive spirit\, and the venue’s warm hospitality was reflected not just in the crowd\, but in the generous performance fee and welcoming atmosphere. \nSean and Niall took the stage in half-kit\, half-kilt — a look that captured the perfect blend of sport\, pride\, and tradition. \nThough the match result (a loss for Scotland) dampened the drive home\, the night remained one of our most memorable gigs. Drummonds is a venue we’d love to return to — a place where music and national spirit collide in the best way.

SUMMARY:BRUACH: Live at Errol Gala Day
DESCRIPTION:On June 22nd\, 2024\, BRUACH had the honour of performing as the final act at Errol Gala Day — a bright\, sun-filled community event that captured everything we love about outdoor gigs. \nWith a relaxed daytime atmosphere\, I was able to bring my dog\, Mocha\, along with my youngest child\, who listened to our set and made the day even more meaningful for me personally. \nAs we wrapped up our set\, we were met with warm appreciation from the crowd — and even treated to free ice cream from a local vendor\, a sweet gesture that reflected the support and love of the Errol community. \nThis gig reminded me once again how special outdoor performances can be — not just for the sound\, but for the sunshine\, the shared smiles\, and the joy of playing music right in the heart of where we live.

SUMMARY:BRUACH: Closing Set at Solas Festival
DESCRIPTION:On June 16th\, 2024\, BRUACH closed out Solas Festival with a set that we’ll never forget — not for the size of the crowd\, but for the heart behind the music. \n \nThe weather had turned rainy\, and most of the festival’s performers and attendees had left by the time we took the stage. To add to the drama\, Pheely’s guitar strings snapped in the early part of the set\, and our bassist Sean — who ran off to assist — both was taking very long time. \nSo there we were: Davie on vocals\, Niall on drums\, and myself on fiddle\, holding the stage as we launched into “Take Me Home\, Country Roads” — equal parts panic and perseverance. At the time\, it felt like a scramble\, but now? It’s one of our favourite stories to laugh about. \nAmong the small but wonderful audience were two young girls\, dancing joyfully throughout our set. Their energy lit up the tent\, and we gifted them BRUACH T-shirts as a thank-you. \nThe day before\, under clear skies\, I had taken part in my first-ever folk session — an entirely improvised\, deeply human exchange of sound and spirit. In that moment\, I truly felt how much my life had shifted\, and how far music was taking me from anything I’d imagined before. \nSolas was more than a festival. It was a turning point.

SUMMARY:🎤 Bruach Live at Bannerman’s Bar\, Edinburgh – June 7th\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:The night we (accidentally) competed with Taylor Swift. \nOur Edinburgh debut will forever be remembered as the night we played at Bannerman’s Bar — completely unaware that Taylor Swift was holding a surprise concert in the city on the very same evening. \n \nOf course\, there was no way we were going to win a crowd against Taylor. In the end\, only two of Kayo’s friends made it through the Swift chaos\, and the rest of the night turned into something unexpected but heart-warming: \nA small\, intimate gathering where we and our friends The Root Notes & Banshee Heathens listened to each other’s music\, shared stories\, and laughed about our spectacularly unlucky timing. \nDespite the tiny audience\, the night had its own charm. All of us squeezed into one car\, driving from Dundee to Edinburgh together — nerves\, excitement\, jokes\, and snacks — the kind of road-trip memory that sticks far longer than a packed venue ever could. \nOur official Edinburgh debut may not have gone as planned\,but it became one of those “only once in a lifetime” stories that we’ll always laugh about. \nAnd next time…maybe we’ll try not to schedule a gig on the same night as one of the biggest pop stars on the planet.

SUMMARY:🎶 Folk Rock Showcase at ROOTS Dundee —
DESCRIPTION:A night of energy\, friendship\, and foot-stomping music! \nWe were thrilled to join Journey North and Banshee Heathens for a packed night of folk-rock at ROOTS Dundee — three bands\, three different flavours of Scottish energy\, and one unforgettable atmosphere. \nThe evening kicked off with the powerful vocals and punk-folk spirit of Banshee Heathens\, followed by the epic melodies of Journey North\, blending rock with the unmistakable sound of Highland pipes. \nBruach closed the night with our own mix of Celtic folk-rock\, lively fiddle tunes\, and crowd sing-alongs. ROOTS was absolutely buzzing — a full room\, warm cheers\, and the kind of audience that makes you want to play twice as hard. \nIt was also a rare chance for all three bands to share the same stage\, support each other’s sets\, and celebrate the Dundee folk-rock community together. \nWe’d love to return to ROOTS again — thanks to everyone who came out and made the night so special!

SUMMARY:🎻 Bruach Live at CSSC Dundee — March 23rd
DESCRIPTION:Our return to the Civil Service Sports Club in Dundee was filled with lively energy\, friendly faces\, and a crowd ready to dance from the very first tune. \nBeing close to Niall’s home ground\, many of his friends came along — bringing an extra spark to the night. The audience was on the younger side\, full of enthusiasm\, and quick to jump up and dance. The room wasn’t huge\, but the atmosphere more than made up for it: warm\, loud\, and wonderfully vibrant. \nWe played a strong folk-rock set featuring favourites such as Jacobite by Name\, Kelliecrankie\, Balaena\, and a bold early-stage performance of the Flower of Scotland melody. Every tune was met with clapping\, cheering\, and people moving to the rhythm — the kind of night where the connection between band and audience feels effortless. \nIt was one of those small-but-mighty gigs that remind you why live music matters: good people\, good energy\, and a room full of dancing feet. \nA brilliant night at CSSC — we’re looking forward to coming back.

SUMMARY:🎻 Bruach Showcase Night — Errol Village Hall (February 16th)
DESCRIPTION:Our February Music Showcase at Errol Village Hall became one of the most memorable nights in Bruach’s early journey. With outstanding guest performers Nicola Madill and Steve DuCane\, the evening brought together some of the region’s most expressive and powerful voices — each artist captivating the audience with heartfelt\, emotionally rich performances. \n \nThis night also marked a turning point for Bruach. For the first time\, many fans and local supporters heard the band with its new fiddle sound — and the reaction was overwhelming. People came over to say how much the fiddle had transformed the band’s energy\, adding colour\, depth\, and emotion to the music they already loved. \nOne woman shared words we will never forget\, describing the fiddle as:“as if it descended from the heavens.”It was a moment of pure encouragement that lifted the whole band. \nBoth Nicola and Steve delivered stunning sets of their own\, showcasing their unique artistry. Their presence elevated the entire event\, making the evening feel like a celebration of local talent coming together under one roof. \nThe hall was full of warmth\, applause\, and community spirit. It wasn’t a large venue\, but the atmosphere was electric — musicians inspiring musicians\, neighbours cheering neighbours\, and everyone leaving with a sense of joy and pride. \nA beautiful night in Errol — and a defining chapter in Bruach’s story.

SUMMARY:🎸 Bruach at The Twa Tams — with Brock’s Den (Dec 15th)
DESCRIPTION:A strong step forward in Bruach’s early journey \nBruach returned to The Twa Tams for a second appearance —this time as the supporting act for Brock’s Den\,a talented solo singer-guitarist accompanied by his charming toy poodle\,who quickly became the unofficial star of the backstage area. \nThis performance marked an important milestone in the band’s development. It was one of the earliest gigs after the addition of our fiddler\,who had previously struggled to hear her own instrument on stage during an earlier show at the same venue.Since then\, the band had invested time\, equipment\, and rehearsal effort to refine the on-stage sound\,ensuring that everyone could perform comfortably and confidently. \nOriginally\, the plan had been for the fiddle to join only for the second half of the set.However\, minutes before the show began\, the decision was made to perform the full programme together. The result was a lively\, high-energy night featuring around twenty songs\,all delivered with enthusiasm and a growing sense of cohesion. \nBrock’s Den brought a warm\, relaxed atmosphere with his seasoned playing style\,and the collaboration between the two acts made for a memorable evening. It was a small but meaningful chapter in Bruach’s early history —a moment when the band’s evolving sound and chemistry began to take clearer shape.

SUMMARY:🍁 Shade of Amber – Perthshire’s Autumn Festival (Nov 4th\, 2023)
DESCRIPTION:A milestone early appearance for Bruach \nBruach took part in Shade of Amber\, the autumn festival curated by the legendary Dougie MacLean\, after the band successfully passed the performer selection process earlier that year. This opportunity arose before our fiddler joined the group\, meaning the original four members were already building a growing reputation in the local music scene. Her appearance at this festival became one of her earliest major stages with the band. \nOriginally scheduled to perform in the early afternoon\, Bruach were unexpectedly asked to close the daytime programme — stepping into the finale slot around 5 pm.This gave the band time to enjoy the atmosphere of the festival: live performances from other musicians\, seasonal foods from the game-meat stalls (featuring venison\, boar\, and pheasant)\, and the classic fish and chips stands that always accompany local gatherings. \nDespite the longer waiting time\, the set was trimmed to a smaller number of fiddle-led pieces\, allowing the group to deliver a confident and cohesive performance.By this stage\, the members had begun to form a closer bond\, and the ensemble’s sound was steadily becoming more unified. \nThe audience — composed largely of mature listeners who appreciate a relaxed folk atmosphere — offered warm enthusiasm. Many remained seated but raised their arms to dance along to the music\, and their applause brought the band back for an unplanned encore. \nIt was also Bruach’s first time performing on a professionally lit stage of this calibre\, leaving the band with wonderful video footage and a sense of pride. For our fiddler\, it marked a moment where the role began to truly take shape — another important step in finding her place within the Bruach sound.

SUMMARY:🎻 Bruach at Art Bar Dundee — Early Milestones (Oct 11th 2023)
DESCRIPTION:A lively night\, and a turning point for the band’s new fiddle sound \nBruach’s second stage appearance featuring fiddle took place at Art Bar Dundee\,a vibrant and eccentric venue known for its colourful graffiti\, alternative crowd\,and welcoming atmosphere. The bar’s friendly staff — including several of the venue’s regulars — created a relaxed environment long before the performance even began. \nOnly three weeks earlier\, the band had faced technical challenges during a previous show\,but by this night the group had made significant progress. After a handful of full-band rehearsals\, the fiddle joined confidently for the entire second half of the set\, performing around eight to nine tunes\,ranging from melodic lines to simple root-note backing. \nThe audience\, made up largely of enthusiastic students and younger listeners\,responded with warmth and energy. The venue soon filled with lively dancing\,and at one point a Hen Night group arrived\, adding even more excitement to the evening. It was a noisy\, bustling environment\, yet the performance held together well\,and the band received encouraging feedback from both staff and customers. The venue’s owner even expressed interest in having Bruach return. \nBehind the scenes\, this gig represented an important moment of cohesion for the group. The band members were highly supportive of their newest musician\, ensuring she felt backed and confident on stage. Each rehearsal and performance strengthened the sense of trust within the lineup\, establishing the collaborative spirit that would define Bruach’s sound moving forward. \nThis early Art Bar appearance stands as one of the key stepping stones in the band’s development —a night full of noise\, laughter\, movement\, and a growing feeling that Bruach’s evolving fiddle sound was here to stay.

SUMMARY:🎻 Debut Appearance at The Twa Tams — Perth (Sept 20th 2023)
DESCRIPTION:Bruach welcomes its new fiddler for her first live performance \n \nBruach’s first performance with their newly joined fiddler took place at The Twa Tams in Perth — a respected music pub well known in the Scottish live scene. The venue is owned by members of the celebrated duo Mad Ferret\, and is equipped with professional sound engineering\, multiple cameras\, and both indoor and outdoor screens that broadcast live performances. It is a polished and well-established setting\, making it an impressive stage for a debut appearance. \nAs this was a weekday evening\, the atmosphere was relaxed\, giving the band an ideal environment to introduce their new member.During the first hour\, she observed the set from the audience area — listening\, studying arrangements\, and preparing for her short on-stage appearance later in the evening. \nWhen introduced to the crowd as Bruach’s new fiddler\, she joined the final section of the performance.However\, technical challenges arose: the electric violin monitor mix made it extremely difficult for her to hear her own instrument. This resulted in significant tuning and intonation issues\, especially under the warmth of the stage lights that caused further pitch instability.Despite these obstacles\, she completed the set\, and the audience responded warmly. \nThe band treated the situation with understanding and support.Instead of viewing the performance as a setback\, they reassured their new member and praised her confidence in handling a difficult first appearance. \nIn the following week’s rehearsal\, the group openly discussed the challenges\, and together decided to move toward using her acoustic violin on stage — supported by a high-quality microphone system purchased through the band’s equipment budget. The string players also standardised their tuners to ensure consistency across the group. \nThis debut at The Twa Tams marked the first chapter of the band’s new fiddle era.Though technically challenging\, it became a foundational moment — one that demonstrated the band’s commitment to collaboration\, mutual respect\, and helping each other grow.
