SUMMARY:🎻 Bruach Showcase Night — Errol Village Hall (February 16th)
DESCRIPTION:Our February Music Showcase at Errol Village Hall became one of the most memorable nights in Bruach’s early journey. With outstanding guest performers Nicola Madill and Steve DuCane\, the evening brought together some of the region’s most expressive and powerful voices — each artist captivating the audience with heartfelt\, emotionally rich performances. \n \nThis night also marked a turning point for Bruach. For the first time\, many fans and local supporters heard the band with its new fiddle sound — and the reaction was overwhelming. People came over to say how much the fiddle had transformed the band’s energy\, adding colour\, depth\, and emotion to the music they already loved. \nOne woman shared words we will never forget\, describing the fiddle as:“as if it descended from the heavens.”It was a moment of pure encouragement that lifted the whole band. \nBoth Nicola and Steve delivered stunning sets of their own\, showcasing their unique artistry. Their presence elevated the entire event\, making the evening feel like a celebration of local talent coming together under one roof. \nThe hall was full of warmth\, applause\, and community spirit. It wasn’t a large venue\, but the atmosphere was electric — musicians inspiring musicians\, neighbours cheering neighbours\, and everyone leaving with a sense of joy and pride. \nA beautiful night in Errol — and a defining chapter in Bruach’s story.

SUMMARY:🎸 Bruach at The Twa Tams — with Brock’s Den (Dec 15th)
DESCRIPTION:A strong step forward in Bruach’s early journey \nBruach returned to The Twa Tams for a second appearance —this time as the supporting act for Brock’s Den\,a talented solo singer-guitarist accompanied by his charming toy poodle\,who quickly became the unofficial star of the backstage area. \nThis performance marked an important milestone in the band’s development. It was one of the earliest gigs after the addition of our fiddler\,who had previously struggled to hear her own instrument on stage during an earlier show at the same venue.Since then\, the band had invested time\, equipment\, and rehearsal effort to refine the on-stage sound\,ensuring that everyone could perform comfortably and confidently. \nOriginally\, the plan had been for the fiddle to join only for the second half of the set.However\, minutes before the show began\, the decision was made to perform the full programme together. The result was a lively\, high-energy night featuring around twenty songs\,all delivered with enthusiasm and a growing sense of cohesion. \nBrock’s Den brought a warm\, relaxed atmosphere with his seasoned playing style\,and the collaboration between the two acts made for a memorable evening. It was a small but meaningful chapter in Bruach’s early history —a moment when the band’s evolving sound and chemistry began to take clearer shape.

SUMMARY:🍁 Shade of Amber – Perthshire’s Autumn Festival (Nov 4th\, 2023)
DESCRIPTION:A milestone early appearance for Bruach \nBruach took part in Shade of Amber\, the autumn festival curated by the legendary Dougie MacLean\, after the band successfully passed the performer selection process earlier that year. This opportunity arose before our fiddler joined the group\, meaning the original four members were already building a growing reputation in the local music scene. Her appearance at this festival became one of her earliest major stages with the band. \nOriginally scheduled to perform in the early afternoon\, Bruach were unexpectedly asked to close the daytime programme — stepping into the finale slot around 5 pm.This gave the band time to enjoy the atmosphere of the festival: live performances from other musicians\, seasonal foods from the game-meat stalls (featuring venison\, boar\, and pheasant)\, and the classic fish and chips stands that always accompany local gatherings. \nDespite the longer waiting time\, the set was trimmed to a smaller number of fiddle-led pieces\, allowing the group to deliver a confident and cohesive performance.By this stage\, the members had begun to form a closer bond\, and the ensemble’s sound was steadily becoming more unified. \nThe audience — composed largely of mature listeners who appreciate a relaxed folk atmosphere — offered warm enthusiasm. Many remained seated but raised their arms to dance along to the music\, and their applause brought the band back for an unplanned encore. \nIt was also Bruach’s first time performing on a professionally lit stage of this calibre\, leaving the band with wonderful video footage and a sense of pride. For our fiddler\, it marked a moment where the role began to truly take shape — another important step in finding her place within the Bruach sound.

SUMMARY:🎻 Bruach at Art Bar Dundee — Early Milestones (Oct 11th 2023)
DESCRIPTION:A lively night\, and a turning point for the band’s new fiddle sound \nBruach’s second stage appearance featuring fiddle took place at Art Bar Dundee\,a vibrant and eccentric venue known for its colourful graffiti\, alternative crowd\,and welcoming atmosphere. The bar’s friendly staff — including several of the venue’s regulars — created a relaxed environment long before the performance even began. \nOnly three weeks earlier\, the band had faced technical challenges during a previous show\,but by this night the group had made significant progress. After a handful of full-band rehearsals\, the fiddle joined confidently for the entire second half of the set\, performing around eight to nine tunes\,ranging from melodic lines to simple root-note backing. \nThe audience\, made up largely of enthusiastic students and younger listeners\,responded with warmth and energy. The venue soon filled with lively dancing\,and at one point a Hen Night group arrived\, adding even more excitement to the evening. It was a noisy\, bustling environment\, yet the performance held together well\,and the band received encouraging feedback from both staff and customers. The venue’s owner even expressed interest in having Bruach return. \nBehind the scenes\, this gig represented an important moment of cohesion for the group. The band members were highly supportive of their newest musician\, ensuring she felt backed and confident on stage. Each rehearsal and performance strengthened the sense of trust within the lineup\, establishing the collaborative spirit that would define Bruach’s sound moving forward. \nThis early Art Bar appearance stands as one of the key stepping stones in the band’s development —a night full of noise\, laughter\, movement\, and a growing feeling that Bruach’s evolving fiddle sound was here to stay.

SUMMARY:🎻 Debut Appearance at The Twa Tams — Perth (Sept 20th 2023)
DESCRIPTION:Bruach welcomes its new fiddler for her first live performance \n \nBruach’s first performance with their newly joined fiddler took place at The Twa Tams in Perth — a respected music pub well known in the Scottish live scene. The venue is owned by members of the celebrated duo Mad Ferret\, and is equipped with professional sound engineering\, multiple cameras\, and both indoor and outdoor screens that broadcast live performances. It is a polished and well-established setting\, making it an impressive stage for a debut appearance. \nAs this was a weekday evening\, the atmosphere was relaxed\, giving the band an ideal environment to introduce their new member.During the first hour\, she observed the set from the audience area — listening\, studying arrangements\, and preparing for her short on-stage appearance later in the evening. \nWhen introduced to the crowd as Bruach’s new fiddler\, she joined the final section of the performance.However\, technical challenges arose: the electric violin monitor mix made it extremely difficult for her to hear her own instrument. This resulted in significant tuning and intonation issues\, especially under the warmth of the stage lights that caused further pitch instability.Despite these obstacles\, she completed the set\, and the audience responded warmly. \nThe band treated the situation with understanding and support.Instead of viewing the performance as a setback\, they reassured their new member and praised her confidence in handling a difficult first appearance. \nIn the following week’s rehearsal\, the group openly discussed the challenges\, and together decided to move toward using her acoustic violin on stage — supported by a high-quality microphone system purchased through the band’s equipment budget. The string players also standardised their tuners to ensure consistency across the group. \nThis debut at The Twa Tams marked the first chapter of the band’s new fiddle era.Though technically challenging\, it became a foundational moment — one that demonstrated the band’s commitment to collaboration\, mutual respect\, and helping each other grow.
